The Unknown Mares Project by Ina M. Ish

On the AMHA CD's on many pedigrees you will encounter "X Unknown Mare" or
"X Unknown Sire"- this is especially true of Morgans descended from LU or Cross Ranch breeding. Well, those animals are NOT unknown- they are written about in the Registry, even if they were not pure Morgan or Registered. This has bugged me for years, so I decided to put together a reference list on those horses- using the Registry Volumes, and Calvin Hanson's book. I call it the Unknown Mare Project. By the way, the reason these animals are not included on the CD's is because the software program AMHA used at the time of data entry had no provision or space for this sort of entry.

Morgan Horse and Register (printed in 1894) by Joseph Battell

Volume 1 of the Morgan Register, dated 1894, is very rare and expensive; it is over a thousand pages, and gives detailed descriptions of horses and pedigrees of the 1800s, of Canadians and other early horses that went into other breeds, not just Morgans. This is your chance to learn for free about the true history of the breed and its original Morgans, and so that people can learn why we must save our original bloodlines and breed for true Morgans of the original descriptions.

Please note, the Table of Contents is page 9 here. However, the numbers on the Table of Contents do not correspond to the page numbers here. However, if you print these pages and begin with page 1, then 2, then 3 etc. you will be able to find the correct pages that correspond to the Table of Contents.

Unfortunately page 10 (here) is missing and will be recovered as soon as we can get it.
